Reports from Japan - Eve 6 plays some oldie but goodies!

Word out of Japan is that they included Nightmare, Small Town Trap and There's A Face in their setlist during their two shows in the far East.

Below, check out Nightmare, captured by Origami405 on the Media HQ Message Board

Be sure to check out their upcoming tourdates at pollstar.com and on their Myspace so you can see these songs live! As far as I know they haven't played Small Town Trap and There's a face since the 90's, but I could be wrong.

Great new interview with Max on 2MusicGeeks.com

Not much to say except check it out!!!

Never heard of the site before, but 2 Music Geeks OBVIOUSLY love 90's music and obviously love Eve 6.

The most interesting note from the interview is that Monsters Are Waiting are NO LONGER A BAND and that means the rumors of Jon returning to the band will commence. Max did nothing to dispel the possible return, hinting that they haven't ruled out any ideas for their missing permanent guitarist.

Max also indicated that there DEFINITELY will be another Eve 6 CD, but did not specify any time frame whatsoever.

Definitely give it a listen.

Exciting stuff. It will be nice to see an Eve 6 concert with production quality video and soundboard quality sound - its been too long!

On to some tour news. Before anything else, I would like to throw out this disclaimer:

UNLESS A SHOW IS LISTED ON EVE 6'S MYSPACE, IT IS NOT OFFICIAL!

That message comes directly from Tony. That being said, we all love to speculate and we all love to plan our next trip to an Eve 6 show. For that reason, sites like Pollstar exist that have "their sources" who report in about shows. Most of the time, these are shows that are in the works, but aren't 100% official yet. You can check out Eve 6's pollstar page here. Something HUGE that sticks out is that it looks like Eve 6 will be heading over to Japan for Independence day. If true, this will mark the first time the guys have toured overseas since the Horrorscope days. Unfortunately for the average Japanese Eve 6 fan (do you still exist, average Japanese fan? If so, come on over and post on the Eve 6 Media HQ message board), these shows look to be taking place at an Air Force Base. This is very cool for the troops stationed around the globe, but I doubt they will be open to the public. Lets keep our fingers crossed that they guys will book some club shows while over in Japan.

Finally, I get to the whole nostalgia question. If you have been paying attention on the message boards, the recent Eve 6 shows have been a HUGE success. They have been playing to crowds up over 1,000 strong and filling up venues to capacity. However, are the people attending these shows fans? Or are they simply a mix of college age kids and mid 20's quarter-life crisis cases who want to rehash the simpler times of "Inside Out" and "Here's To The Night". I'd love to be glass half-full on this one, but I remember back to the final days before the hiatus when Eve 6 was in Atlantic City on their final tour, they had 30 people at the venue. A few years later they are playing to a sold out Recher theater just down the road in Baltimore.

Some Eve 6 fans are concerned with Eve 6's choice of setlists for the recent string of shows. The complaint is that the setlists are being constructed to appease the nostalgia-minded folks and not the hard core fans who have stuck with the band from day one, throughout the hiatus and to where we are now. I won't get into breaking down the exact reasoning behind this concern, but a lot of it has to do with the current setlists being heavy on Eve 6's singles, light on tracks from "It's All In Your Head" and even lighter on the former Sugi Tap songs that Eve 6 vowed to incorporate into their setlist.

It is obvious that a room full of concert-goers who haven't heard Eve 6 since 2001 aren't going to react as well to "Red & Black" as well as they will to "Promise" or "Leech", but it may be time for the guys to make some tough set list decisions. I would NEVER suggest that the guys of Eve 6 should forget what got them to this point and not play "Inside Out" or "Here's To The Night". Those are Eve 6 concert STAPLES and I can't image an Eve 6 show without them. However, if they don't start mixing in new material, giving these re-found fans something to whet their appetite in regard to a new album, they may suffer the fate of the Atlantic City show back in 2004 that I described above.

There have been multiple small-town / University newspaper articles about Eve 6 shows recently and they have ALL mentioned the nostalgic nature of an Eve 6 show. It is troubling to think that the only reason people are going to these Eve 6 shows, but we also have realize what a longshot it was for Eve 6 to even be playing shows! For a long time it looked like we would never get to rock out LIVE to Open Road Song ever again. Let us all be grateful that we have the opportunity to see Eve 6 in concert again!

Remember, all of this is OPINION and nothing on this website represents the views of opinions of Max Collins or Tony Fagenson. This is NOT the official Eve 6 web page and while the guys in the band have always been big fans of what we are doing here, they have no part in the running of this site.

Eve 6's first national tour in YEARS commences tonight!

Are you excited, kiddies??? You should be! Tonight Eve 6 begins their first national tour in over 4 years with a show in Arkansas!!!

Yes, there are a lot of private college shows and 21+ venues mixed in, but if you live in the south, the Plains the Mid-Atlantic or the Northeast, you should be able to catch a show in the next few months (not to mention a few Southwest dates mixed in as well).

Now is the time to plan which shows you can catch. Best bet is to utilize Pollstar.com's Eve 6 page and the official Eve 6 Myspace for accurate dates. If you want firsthand info on show planning/ how to get into the college shows, etc, head on over to the Eve 6 Media HQ Message Boards. Once you make your first post in the introduction thread, you will have access to all forums and all of the great information within.

This is an exciting time to be an Eve 6 fan - now get out there and support Max, Tony and Matt!

The State Of Eve 6: Former touring bassist JJ Bannasch putting out feelers to rejoin Eve 6?

We here at the Media HQ have received word that a third party is sending out Myspace messages to fans of Eve 6 on JJ Bannasch's behalf, informing them that he wants to rejoin Eve 6. Below is the content of one of these messages:

I am writing to you and a bunch of eve 6 fans in hopes of getting support for my friend and former touring bassist of Eve 6, JJ Bannasch. He toured briefly with eve 6 for a few years. I spoke to him recently and he expressed interest in joining them again and if you could help me spread the word to other eve 6 fans it would be much appreciated. The more support the better. Thanks for your help!!!
It is the opinion of Eve 6 Media HQ (remember, Eve 6 Media HQ claims no affiliation with the band Eve 6 or any members) that JJ is NOT responsible for this "mailing" and it is the work of an overzealous fan. Regardless, it doesn't look good for JJ. If JJ wants so badly to be back in the band, he should contact them directly and talk about it - he shouldn't be telling Eve 6 fans about his wish.

Remember, Eve 6 Media HQ had an EXCLUSIVE interview with JJ Bannach back in July of 2006 and he had this to say:

It was rumored that you wanted to finish your schooling and thats why you stopped playing with eve6. is this accurate or is there any other reason?

I always knew that i was going to return back to san diego state university to finish my last two semesters of college after touring but that wasnt the only reason i decided to leave. there were numerous reasons i decided to stop playing with them and school was one of the reasons.

purely speclative - but if max and tony wanted you to play bass with them again, would it be something you would be interested in?

i have so much respect for max and tony, they are amazing musicians and good friends. i was so honored to have the opportunity to play music with them in eve6. last week i heard the their new songs for the first time and was really into their new tunes, so if they wanted me to play bass with them again it would not be out of the question.
full interview with JJ Bannasch here

The immediate question that comes to mind after reading that quote is what were the other issues surrounding JJ leaving the band in his touring role? It was reported (on message boards, of course) that JJ never really gelled with the band. That has never been confirmed, however.

In any case, it appears that JJ wants another go-round with Eve 6 and as we all know, there is still an open guitar position within the band. What we don't know is whether JJ plays guitar, or if he wants to play the bass again and allow Max to have more freedom on stage once again.

These questions will have to go unanswered for now. Meanwhile, head on over to Eve 6's Myspace and check out when you can catch them on tour!

Max singing on Megafauna's track for the Posies Tribute Album

Well, that title is a bit confusing. Basically, all you need to know is that Max is singing a classic by the Posies for an upcoming tribute album called "Coming Right Along". For a little background, Brian Young who was playing drums for Max's short-lived solo project "Brotherhood Of Lost Dogs", was formerly a member of the Posies. Members of the Eve 6 Media HQ Message Boards
report receiving a friend request as follows:

Max Collins sings with Megafauna on a killer cover of Posies track "Coming Right Along" on this record - check out the song on our profile!

So, lets get to it! Download the 9 MB file here:
