You may have noticed that a couple of our posts about Eve 6′s new single “Victoria” from the past week have been disappeared from the site. It turns out that some radio stations around the country jumped the gun a bit on promotion, and it isn’t yet time to let that cat out of the bag. Out of respect for our favorite band, we’re pulling the posts. The good news is, we only have a couple of weeks until the song is available for all to hear – not only those in markets that have radio stations playing the song early.

In all of this, we learned something very interesting about the radio industry. Although they stream their stations on the internet for all to hear, getting requests from other parts of the country isn’t valuable to them. They need to gauge interest in a song based on their individual market. Therefore, when we revealed radio stations that were playing Victoria, it unleashed legions (or dozens) of Eve 6 fans from all of the country on radio stations’ request lines. Apparently, that doesn’t do anything for the band, or for the radio station – so we’d encourage you all cease your speed-dialing. If you don’t live in a market with a radio station that is currently playing Victoria, don’t bother calling and requesting – it actually might be detrimental to the band. It seems weird, but so are a lot of things about the music industry.

As an FYI, the markets that we know are playing Eve 6 “Victoria” so far are:

Denver, Colorado

Salt Lake City, Utah

Charlotte, North Carolina

Philadelphia, PA

We haven’t listed the stations playing the song in these markets, because we don’t want more “artificial” requests skewing the stats for program directors.

We have it on good authority that Victoria will release to radio on February 27 and should be available from Eve6.mtraks.com on February 28 (where you can no longer hear a sample of the song, since promotion for the song has NOT started yet).

In the meantime, hold yourself over by watching this awesome acoustic of “Victoria” by Max Collins from November 2011:

Check out the lyrics to Victoria after the jump…

She’s doing body shots off Italian guys in Mexico
I’m all alone
She’s dancing with a vampire at a bi-lingual disco
I’m all alone

Cause she went to del Playa for the fire show
If I could be a fly up on the wall I would know

I don’t mean to be possessive
But baby please I’m getting desperate

No
I don’t believe
You went to bed at 10:15
Victoria
You’re tearing me up
You said you’d call
I waited up

I don’t know why I even try I need another tequila

She goes out lets her hair down bumps up
I’m all alone
She’s grooving to a Coldplay dance mix turned up
I’m all alone

Cause she went to del Playa for the fire show
Am I in denial is she dancing alone?

You don’t like my attitude well I don’t like your latitude

No
I don’t believe
You went to bed at 10:15
Victoria
You’re tearing me up
You said you’d call
I waited up

I don’t know why I even try I need another tequila

Another tequila

I hope those gran (?) mosquitos get ya
And you sun in stormy weather
I wish I never met ya

No
I don’t believe
You went to bed at 10:15
Victoria
You’re tearing me up
You said you’d call
I waited up

I gotta gotta say no
I don’t believe
You went to bed at 10:15
Victoria
You’re tearing me up
You said you’d call
I waited up

I don’t know why I even try I need another tequila

It’s been nearly two weeks since Lost & Found premiered on AOL Music and long-suffering fans of Eve 6 were finally blessed with a sonic experience that was nearly nine years in the making. A polarizing band in their heyday, Eve 6′s first offering since the long hiatus has received nothing short of critical acclaim. As evidenced by a 5-star rating on iTunes, rave reviews on AbsolutePunk.net and hundreds of positive posts on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, Eve 6 is clearly back – and with a vengeance. But for some Eve 6 fans the sound of the new song sparked a lively debate – and it all starts with the supposed “over production” of the track by successful producer Don Gilmore.

When Eve 6 “got the band back together” it didn’t only mean Jon Siebels was returning as guitarist – it also meant that Don Gilmore would be back in the fold as producer. Don Gilmore was the man behind the board for Eve 6′s Platinum self-titled debut and Gold sophomore effort “Horrorscope.” Known for a slick sound, he has been behind some of the most successful modern rock albums from the early 90′s until today. You can find all of Don Gilmore’s credits at AllMusic.com, but here’s a sampling of who he’s worked with: (read more after the jump)

2011 – Hollywood Undead – “American Tragedy”

Let this well-spoken young man tell you a bit more about Don Gilmore:

Now our take on Don Gilmore: he makes rock albums that are the opposite of “raw and gritty.” He makes rock albums that incorporate digital elements, keyboards, etc. He adds reverb and spruces things up. Stick Don Gilmore in a room with Eve 6 and you’ll never come out with “It’s All In Your Head.” While some fans don’t love that, the band does. And if you polled Eve 6 fans, their favorite album is most likely Horrorscope. In an October interview with AlternativeAddiction.com, Tony talked a bit about the progression of Eve 6′s sound and what Don Gilmore has brought back to the table (emphasis added):

“I think if I were to be honest it would be a little bit more of a return to a “Horroscope” sound. “It’s All In Your Head” was sort of a rawer record.” Fagenson continued, “We stripped away a lot of the additional production that we had put on “Horroscope” to show a different side of the band and to show more of what we sound like live. It was a great record and we loved it but that was a statement of that time for us. Coming back now, we’re going into a different direction again where we’re incorporating a little more of the production elements and keyboards and things. But it’s definitely an Eve 6 record. I don’t think any longtime fan of the band will have any doubts about that. It’s got all of the things that people like about the band. Max spits his words out in his special way that only he can do and we really tried our hardest to make the best melodies and best songs to bring the most impact in everything. Jon’s guitars are rocking and I think it’s just a really fun record and every song has a little bit of something to offer so we’re really excited about that.”

Anyone with knowledge of Eve 6 and Don Gilmore’s history could have predicted this direction back in April when Eve 6 announced they’d be working together again. While they’ll never say a bad word about “It’s All In Your Head,” the album came with a lot of baggage and set them on a mission to find their old sound. In short, you don’t hire Don Gilmore unless you want a slick production.

All of that said, it isn’t all bells and whistles that Gilmore brings to the table. Here’s what Tony and Max had to say in Eve 6′s recently updated band biography:

Don was crucial in helping us tighten everything up, and inspiring Max to dig really deep lyrically and get to some root emotion down there.” Explains Collins, “Neil Finn [of Crowded House] once said, ‘A great producer is someone whom you admire musically and otherwise, who you feel compelled to show up and show off for.’ I feel like Don is that figure for me and the band.”

From what has been written, Don Gilmore inspired the band in the studio, and based on some of the songs we’ve had the pleasure of hearing, the lyrics are some of Max’s strongest to date. At their best, Eve 6 is a pop-rock band on albums and a guitar-driven rock band (sometimes bordering on punk) during live shows. It’s the best of both worlds, and one of Eve 6′s unique qualities. Unless you’re The Black Keys, guitar-driven albums aren’t going to gain mainstream appeal, and it seems that the guys in Eve 6 are still chasing that dream, as elusive as that may be in today’s industry. From what we’ve heard so far, Eve 6′s sound is relevant for 2012 but isn’t too far of a departure from their roots.

In the YouTube age, we all tend to get attached to the live versions of songs that we inevitably hear before a rock album comes out – especially when that rock album is nine years in the making. Over the years, Eve 6 fans became accustomed to a very raw and gritty - whether from listening to their latest album, or attending live shows since the band started things back up in 2007.

We’ll admit that on first listen, the produced versions of “Lost & Found” and the sample of “Victoria” sound a bit fancy. But after listening further, you come to appreciate it almost as a love-child of The Sugi Tap and Horroscope era. You have to respect one thing – Speak in Code is long-awaited piece of art and the band has treated it as such. This quote from Tony via last week’s interview on AlternativeAddiction.com speaks to that idea:

“A lot of times, rock bands are doing a couple songs with a different producer each time so you have a mish-mash of ideas. The album in general, isn’t quite as important as it was ten years ago because people can buy individual songs now. It’s a song and single-driven world that we’re in. The concept of a fleshed-out, cohesive album in the world of rock music isn’t as prominent as it was. It was cool to do it that way and kind of have the best of both worlds. We’ve had these different songs and we’ve taken the best of everything but we were able to pull it together because we did the entire record with Don Gilmore. We kept it in house.”

We respect the opinions of those who are disappointed by Eve 6′s “new old sound,” but we ask one favor – give it a chance. Open your ears to the emotional lyrics and the attention to detail that went into making sure everything sounded perfect to the band. If you pine for the raw and gritty Eve 6, go see them live! They’re about to announce a tour and we all know their live sound will always be guitar-driven rock. If all else fails, and you really can’t get on board there’s a silver lining – nobody can ever take away “It’s All In Your Head,” the live bootlegs here on Eve 6 Media HQ or any of the raw rock experiences that you had with the band in the past.

Sometimes in life tastes change and things evolve. If the sound of Lost & Found and Victoria has you REELING, it might be time to turn the page. Or, you can withhold judgement until the album comes out so you can listen to Speak in Code as a holistic work of art as it was intended. Regardless, music is a very personal experience, so it is expected that there will be varying opinions. As Eve 6 fans, let’s just agree to respect everyone else’s opinion as we would our own.

While Eve 6 news has been coming fast and fresh this week surrounding the release of the “Lost & Found” single, we like this lyric video for the transition it creates from old to new Eve 6.

The video clips used span the gamut from the previous heyday of Eve 6 to more recent tours. You’ll spot archive footage of Jon’s spiky red hair and bridge piercing, Tony’s frosted tips, and even an appearance on MTV with Carson Daly. This is gracefully intermixed with footage of more recent tours with Matt Bair and finally Jon’s return to the band. And there’s plenty of front row fan footage so you might spot yourself on the video if you’re a long time fan.

With a little computer wizardry, we were able to rip an MP3 of Eve 6′s Lost & Found UStream performance from Tuesday, 1/31/12. The quality is OK, considering it was recorded from Tony’s living room through a computer. At the very least, it’s another Eve 6 acoustic track to add to our collection. You can find it in the acoustic section of Eve 6 Media HQ (top navbar), or by right-clicking the below link (save as):

http://eve6mediahq.com/Audio/Acoustic/Eve%206%20-%20Lost%20&%20Found%20(Acoustic).mp3

Eve 6 – Lost & Found Lyrics

Heaven can you hear me I’m calling from a land line
I need a good connection I feel like I’m losing my mind
The day is just about to break I think it’s safe to say, so am i
Can you bring my legs to walk even though they’re shaking
will you get my head to stop all the plans its making
the clouds are just about to burst I think it’s safe to say, so am I

Open the flood gates now
let the water come down

The monster in the closet when the lights turned on
is just a jacket on a hanger and the fear is gone,
and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning,
we are the lost and found
gonna make it through another day.

Can you train my mouth to shut when I feel like talking
get my ears to open up and let a little love in
lately I’m a ticking bomb and so are you and we are here together
Can you set my heart to beat no matter what I’m feeling
Will you take the wheel and drive, for miles I’ve been dealing
The day is just about to break, I think it’s safe to say, so am I.

Open the flood gates now
let the water come down

The monster in the closet when the lights turned on
is just a jacket on a hanger and the fear is gone
and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning,
We are the lost and found
gonna make it through another day

In the dark before the dawn now,
I’m gonna hold it down with the lost and found.

The monster in the closet when the lights turned on
its just a jacket on a hanger and the fear is gone

and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning,
we are the lost and found
and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning,
we are the lost and found
Gonna make it through another day
Gonna make it through another day
and the world keeps turning, sun keeps burning,
we are the lost and found
Gonna make it through another day

The day is finally here! Doesn’t it feel good to buy Eve 6 music again?

Here’s the official Eve 6 Media HQ review of “Lost & Found”:

After a nine year hiatus, Lost & Found is a triumphant return to the scene for the boys (now men) of Eve 6. A perfect mix of Eve 6′s musical stylings through the years, Max Collins has added a bit of introspection to the witty lyrics he’s been honing since Eve 6′s self-titled debut in 1998. With producer Don Gilmore back in the fold, providing the slick sound that made him mega-bucks producing previous Eve 6 albums (Self-Titled, Horrorscope) as well as hits by Good Charlotte and Linkin Park, the forthcoming album “Speak In Code” (set to drop on April 24, 2012) is set up for success.

Today was a HUGE day in the world of Eve 6, to say the least. For the first time in 9 years, the band released a single, streamed exclusively on AOL Music (it’s available to purchase digitally tomorrow, or if you’re in the U.K., RIGHT NOW).

Lost & Found is a classic blend of Eve 6′s style through the years – from the witty lyrics of Self-Titled, to Horrorscope’s slick Don Gilmore production, to the more introspective lyrics of the more recent years. The song has been universally lauded by fans across the web, setting the stage for the great comeback we’ve all been waiting for.

In other news, the band seems to be continuing their embrace of social media, hosting a live UStream acoustic performance of “Lost & Found” and answering questions from fans afterwards. Be sure to tune in at 7PM EST to ask the burning questions you’ve been holding in for years. We’ll see you there!

Last week, we bombarded you with Eve 6 news – the new album, “Speak in Code” will be released on 4/24 and the new single “Victoria” will release to radio on 3/19. Even then, Fearless Records promised MORE news in a tweet:

Get ready, we’ve got some

And today, via PupFresh.com, Eve 6 news has once again leaked out prior to the official announcement – Eve 6 will be releasing “Lost & Found” on 1/31! You can even listen to a clip of the song on Amazon right now! It has a very Don Gilmore sound, reminiscent of Horrorscope – but evolved. This song isn’t likely to be aradio single, but more of an EP-style release intended to hold over the fans. We’d expect it to still be on the album, making Eve 6 Media HQ contributor, Jeff, two for two so far on his “Speak In Code” tracklist predictions.

What do you guys think of the sound?

Editor’s Note: The following post was written by special contributor to Eve 6 Media HQ, Jeff Sturman. Jeff is a longtime Eve 6 fan and active member of the Eve 6 Media HQ message board (username: jms999). He is also the rockstar Eve 6 fan who provided the kick-ass Eve 6 live videos from April 2011′s Eve 6 shows in the Carolinas and wrote the “Haven’t Been Keeping Up With Eve 6″ post this past year. As we’ve mentioned in the past, Jeff is part of a close knit group of Eve6′ers who stuck through the “dark years” of Eve 6 fandom and lived to tell about it. You can find all of his YouTube videos under the username GreatLiveMusic99. Jeff has been paying close attention to the developments of the band over the past few years and has put together a thorough analysis of potential songs for Eve 6′s upcoming album “Speak In Code,” set to be released on April 24, 2012.

Fans have long speculated what songs would be on the album now known as “Speak In Code.” Because of how long this album has been in the works, potential songs snowballed into even more potential songs and at this point, the band could release a solid double album and still have good songs left over. As a fun exercise here at Eve 6 Media HQ, we thought it would be fun to put together a list of all the possible tracks that can possibly make their way onto “Speak In Code.”

Disclaimer: This list will only include songs that we know of (songs that have been played live, previously recorded under side projects, etc.), and it is very possible that there are many more that we’ve never ever heard. While Tony has gone on the record to state that they’ve recorded 16 tracks for “Speak In Code,” we’ve often noted that Tony stated in a 2003 interview that over 50 songs were written “It’s All in Your Head.” In other words, the band has a history of producing a lot of music before putting out an album. As you read through the below post, you’ll realize that many of the possible selections have been played live over the last eight years since the band parted ways in 2004. All information below has been obtained via interaction with the band, interaction with other fans and attendance at live shows. Dates are as accurate as humanely possible. Please post any corrections in the comments.

1) Strange Familiar Face

This song is likely to have been written by Max Collins while Eve 6 was still together in 2003 or 2004, or very shortly after their hiatus began. The first known performance of the song was on 1/4/05 at the Spaceland Cafe in Los Angeles, CA by Brotherhood of Lost Dogs (a short-lived solo project that you can learn more about right here on Eve 6 Media HQ)

The song was reportedly recorded by The Sugi Tap in 2006 or 2007 but was never performed live. It was thought to have been forgotten by the band until Max mentioned it in a personal conversation at a show in 2010. At that time, he revealed that they were thinking about recording it for the forthcoming Eve 6 album. Official confirmation came on May 24, 2011 when Eve 6 released “EVElog #10 – Demoing 5.24.2011″

This peek inside of the studio provided the first listen of what the new Eve 6 album will sound like, and it sounds AMAZING! While the song structure and lyrics for “Strange Familiar Face” are basically the same as when it was first played in 2005, it has without a doubt been updated and sounds like Eve 6. While in the past, the song was untitled, it was known to fans as “Familiar Face.” By now, all indications are that the official title will be ”Strange Familiar Face”

2) Pick Up the Pieces

Pick Up the Pieces is a song that originated with Max and Tony’s side project, The Sugi Tap and was released on MySapce in 2006 when they reached the 1,000 friend mark. It was an instant hit with fans and has long been thought to be a possible album single. It was a staple in setlists during The Sugi Tap era, as well as Eve 6 shows when the band reformed.

The song has also been performed acoustically on the DJRossStar’s Punk Rock show in 2007, which you can find right here on Eve 6 Media HQ (in the “audio” section)

In interviews, the band has confirmed a few songs from the Sugi Tap era would be on a future Eve 6 album and this is almost SURE to be one of them.

3) Little Tiny Everything

Little Tiny Everything was another Sugi Tap song that was released on MySpace in 2006, this time when the band reached the 3,000 friend mark.

It was also performed acoustically on the DJRossStar’s Punk Rock show in 2007.

The song was played at almost every known live The Sugi Tap show and at the Eve 6 comeback show on 10/20/07. It has remained a regular song in Eve 6 setlists since.

4) Best Friend’s Girlfriend

Best Friend’s Girlfriend is another older song from the Brotherhood Of Lost Dogs days, previously known as “Can of Worms.” The first known performance of the song was on 1/4/05 at the Spaceland Cafe in Los Angeles, CA:

This song was also confirmed to have been recorded by The Sugi Tap, but it was never released and no known live performance by The Sugi Tap exists. Longtime fans received a great surprise in Charlotte, NC on April 29, 2011 when this song made its way onto a setlist. The song has been reworked with new lyrics, a new song structure and a new name – Best Friends Girlfriend.

This song has been heard in studio sessions via EVElogs, and is likely on “Speak In Code”

5) Red and Black

Another Sugi Tap song that appeared on the Sugi Tap digital EP, and was played during live shows. When Eve 6 reformed with Matt Bair, it was immediately inserted the regular setlist The song similar to the Sugi Tap version, but has an edgier sound.

During the early reformation days, Eve 6 mentioned that they were still working on the song, and the original version was not a finished product. Sure enough, on 6/27/09 at the Moghegan Sun in CT, the band played a newer version of the song with a brand new bridge and a new outro that took the song in a different direction that sounded great:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNZAiAdm3dY&feature=player_detailpage#t=199s
(While the sound quality is not terrific, it’s all that is available from that show and you can hear the changes to the original.)

6) Victoria

Victoria is also a Sugi Tap song that was first played live in 2007.

It was thought to have been ditched by Eve 6 until it appeared at the Nov 1, 2010 label showcase at the Mercury Lounge in New York City. It is very similar to the version The Sugi Tap played:

Max also played a fantastic acoustic version of this song at the Viper Room on November 13, 2011 which is even more poignant and brings the song to life:

It has been confirmed that Victoria will be the first single off “Speak In Code” and will be released to radio on March 19. It has quickly become a fan favorite, and is a great choice to help promote the band.

7) What Do You Think of Me Now

What Do You Think of Me Now was first heard in a soundcheck in August of 2008. At that time Max was just working on the baseline and the lyrics heard in the first few lines of the song. In subsequent months, the band mentioned that they would soon be integrating some new songs into their setlist. On Feb 6, 2009 in Boston, MA “What Do You Think Of Me Now” made its debut, and has been on Eve 6 set lists since.

  Bad News

Bad News was first mentioned in an April Fool’s Day post that Tony made in 2010. Eight months later, Eve 6 very graciously gave fans an awesome present for the holidays – a never before heard demo of the song. It has appeared on set lists since.

9) Underachiever

Underachiever was first mentioned in the same 2010 April Fool’s Day post by Tony. It debuted live on November 1st, 2010 at the Mercury Lounge in New York City:

10) Everything

Everything is one of the newest Eve 6 songs and is believed to have been written once Jon rejoined the band. Before a show in Charlotte, NC on April 29, 2011, the band announced via Twitter that they would be playing a brand new song, and it turned out to be Everything. While on stage that night, they acknowledged that no one had heard the song outside of the band and there techs. Of all the newer songs, this one is the most different from “vintage” Eve 6. It is a different stlye for the band and is very catchy!

11) Lost & Found

Lost & Found is a song considered to be a true Eve 6 song, as it was never known rumored to have been recorded or played by Brotherhood of Lost Dogs or The Sugi Tap. The song debuted on Februrary 20, 2010 in Fairfield CT and was an instant hit with fans! Fun fact – over time, the band made a slight revision in the pre-chrous, changing the lyrics from “let the water come up to rush it down” to “let the water rush it down.” On June 25, 2010 the band released a new EVElog showing them recording Lost & Found in the studio.

The song has remanined a constant in set lists and has become a fan favorite since its debut.

12) Curtain

Curtain is a brand new song, and likely one of the newest on the record. No mention of the song had been made prior to Max playing an acoustic version live at the Viper Room on November 13, 2011. The lyrics are some of the most emotional and honest that we’ve heard from Max in his career. Fun fact – the first verse of the song contains the phrase “Speak In Code,” which is the title of the new Eve 6 album.

There we have 12 songs, all of which have been played live and have received incredibly positive feedback from the fans. If the new album ends up being 14 songs, there are still two open slots for potential songs that aren’t even on our radar.

Here are some speculative questions that we won’t know the answer to until an official track list is revealed:

Will the band ditch some of the above and add other totally new songs?

Will the song “All the Things” (played only once at Eve 6′s first show back) get some love and attention in the studio and makes its way onto the new record? (unlikely, based on a tweet from Tony that mentioned it was not one of 16 songs recorded in the studio.)

Will an incredibly catchy song like BOLD (Brotherhood of Lost Dogs) or Peace of Mind from The Sugi Tap EP be remained as Eve 6?

Perhaps a song like Bottle of Brown from Brotherhood of Lost Dogs will reemerge, similar to what happened with “Strange Familiar Face”?”

Having as many songs to choose from as Eve 6 does at this point is a good problem to have, and it will result in another album full of songs that you don’t want to skip – just like their previous three records. New songs such as “Everything” and “Curtain” prove that the band has been writting some incredible new material, leaving the possibility that the remaining few songs on the album will be “brand new” and never heard before.

2011 was a great year for Eve 6 fans and all signs point to the trend continuing in 2012. Victoria will be released to radio on March 19, the album will officially be released on April 24, 2012 and there is sure to be a tour to support all of it. As always, we’ll be there to document it all.

Update (1/15/12 11:30 PM): In a tweet, the band has confirmed all of the below to be true…

The cat’s out of the bag – we will be releasing our new album, “Speak In Code”, on April 24th!More details to come…

— Eve 6 (@Eve6) January 15, 2012

The news came at a strange time, and from an unexpected source, but reports are circulating the web that Eve 6′s forthcoming new album will be titled “Speak In Code” and will be released by Fearless/Sony RED on April 24, 2012.

Nothing has been confirmed by the band yet, but the date would fit into their previously mentioned timeline of “late first quarter or early second quarter of 2012.” In recent weeks, posts from the band on Facebook and Twitter have pointed at the imminent release of this type of news:

On January 5, the band posted about a photo shoot and mentioned that “lots of news [would be] coming in the next week or two, stay tuned…”

On January 7, Max Collins made a rare tweet, alerting fans that his planned acoustic tour with Art from Everclear would be “rain checked” as a result of “Eve 6 stuff starting to ramp up in Feb.”

On January 13, Tony Tweeted “Video treatments, photo shoots, conference calls…it’s all coming back to me now #startitup”

And now we await the official word. If the April 24 date sticks for “Speak In Code,” it will have been 3,199 days since the release of Eve 6′s third studio album “It’s All In Your Head” on July 22, 2003. If you’re interested to see what else was happening in the world way back in 2003, you can check out some interesting facts after the jump.

While Eve 6′s fourth studio spent another year eluding us in 2011, it’s hard to argue that this was one of the most exciting years in the history of the band. Things started out slow, but really got rolling in March. Below is a month by month breakdown, which should be fun for reflecting (and in case you missed anything throughout the year)! This post may get a bit lengthy but be sure to read on to the end – since we haven’t posted for the past couple of months, there might be some nuggets of information you weren’t privy to (especially if you don’t follow @Eve6MediaHQ on Twitter). Read more after the jump:

January – Jon Siebels Run-In With The Law, Matt’s Bair’s Final Eve 6 Show

2011 started out fairly quiet, as the band had recently released a demo of “Bad News” at the end of 2010. In mid-January, a familiar name made some news, but not the good kind. On January 20, it was reported that Jonathan Siebels of Los Angeles (better known as Jon) had been arrested in New Jersey for marijuana possession. We won’t hop on our soapbox about how ridiculous this type of arrest is, but it brought Jon’s name back into the Eve 6 universe – a precursor to some WAY better news regarding Jon that would come in March. The month closed with Matt Bair playing his final show as a member of Eve 6 – a private gig in Raleigh, North Carolina as part of the NHL All-Star game “Pre-Game Celebration.” As the following video proves, they could have afforded to allow some non-private people into this show:

Based on the videos that popped up on YouTube, it seemed like a pretty lame ending for Matt Bair’s impressive, nearly four-year run as touring guitarist of the reformed Eve 6. Regardless, let’s take this moment to tip our caps to Matty, as he did a hell of a job and helped keep the band alive after many had left them for dead. Also of note – Eve 6′s “Bad News” demo hit the Alternative Addiction “Top 20 Singles” chart and by the end of January had peaked at number 2. This was all organic, as the Eve 6 Media HQ community didn’t even know about it until the middle of February. Just goes to show that within a niche, Eve 6 is still quite popular!

February – Slow News Month

Not much happened in the Eve 6 world in February, but it was just the calm before the storm, as March promised big things. Around this time, long-time Eve 6 Media HQ Message Board poster, TRcks808 used YouTube to unearth an Eve 6 performance on Jay Leno from the early days of the band. We’d love to repost it now, but unfortunately, the YouTube account associated with the video was terminated due to multiple third-party copyright infringement violations. Yeah, it was a quiet news month.

March – Major Eve 6 Announcement: Jon Siebels Returns To The Band!

By March, the dog days of Eve 6 fandom were setting in, and the Eve 6 community had taken to discovering random live Eve 6 albums that RCA was releasing without any input from the band. This 10-track Eve 6 “Extended Versions” was released in November of 2010, but nobody seemed to notice until March. Hardcore Eve 6′er Truck was so appalled by the low-quality engineering and mixing that he took to Amazon to leave a video review, urging Eve 6 fans to save their money for Eve 6′s forthcoming fourth studio album. Tony Fagenson, (Eve 6 drummer) stopped by the Eve 6 Media HQ message board and confirmed that the band had no part in the release of the material. He did, however, assure fans that money from the release would somehow make its way back to the band while convincing us not to pirate it.

But obviously, the big news of March was the surprise return of Jon Siebels as guitarist of Eve 6. Finally, after nearly seven years, the original members of Eve 6 were reunited and ready to unleash their reformed rock power on the world. Here’s how the news was announced (in a special video announcement on
“Eve 6 TV” – Eve 6′s YouTube channel):

The rest of March was calm in Eve6ville, aside from a couple of shows being announced for April (Jon’s first back with Eve 6 since 2004), and Tony clarifying once and for all that Eve 6 never harbored any ill-will toward American Idol (although most Eve 6 fans do).

April – Jon’s First Shows Back With The Band & Rumors Of More Big News

April was yet another eventful month for Eve 6. On April 1, Tony promised Eve6Log #8, set to be a sneak peak at Eve 6 playing a new song, but it turned out that he was just rick-rolling the fans and it was Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” It was a cruel joke, especially if the song got stuck in your head as a result. On April 14, Jon Siebels played his much-anticipated first show back with Eve 6. Long-time Eve 6′er Susan captured some video at the show, highlighted by one of the newer Eve 6 songs “Lost & Found”

Eve 6 also played a show in Charlotte, NC on April 29, which ended up being a bootleg that is now available on Eve 6 Media HQ, thanks to loyal Eve 6′er Jeff. Toward the end of the month, Tony promised some “huge” Eve 6 news, that was set to be released within days. Unfortunately, the big announcement kept on getting pushed back, keeping us all on pins and needles into the first week of May…

May – Eve 6 Signs To Fearless Records, Eve 6 Media HQ Relaunches

The waiting was the hardest part, but eventually Tony revealed the big Eve 6 news – they had been signed to a record deal with Fearless Records and a publishing deal with Sony Red. Then, things really started to heat up. Alternative Addiction wrote an article about the news, the band had an awesome photo shoot for Rock & Revolution/Dish Magazine, Red Bull released an exclusive interview with Max and we put out an exclusive live video mix of Lost & Found (once again via Eve6′er Jeff) on the newly relaunched Eve 6 Media HQ:

}

After all that, the highlight of the month was probably when Rainn Wilson (better known as Dwight Schrute from NBC’s “The Office” made a snarky tweet about “Inside Out” and the band was prepared with an awesome comeback. Good times were had by all:

June – Eve 6 Releases “Friend Of Mine” Acoustic Video With An iPad Twist, Gets Ready To Hit The Studio With Don Gilmore

June was filled with goodies for Eve 6 fans. Toward the beginning of the month, they surprised us with a special acoustic version of “Friend Of Mine” and a video to go along with it:

We here at Eve 6 Media HQ were especially impressed with Eve 6′s usage of the iPad to breathe new life into an old song. Later in the month, Eve 6 blessed us with another treat – an acoustic version of “On The Roof Again”. On June 24, Eve 6 played an outdoor show in Val Du Lakes, Michigan and Eve 6′er Michael Bacon was on hand to capture some great videos (which we eventually ripped and turned into another Eve 6 Media HQ bootleg). The set was filled with new songs likely headed for the new album such as “Lost & Found,” “Bad News,” “Everything” and “Underachiever.”

All of this activity worked well to hold over a fan base starving for a new album, but questions were starting to emerge – when would Eve 6 finally hit the studio to record their fourth album?! The date was supposed to be some time in June, but as the end of the month neared, it became clear that the date would be pushed back into July. The band confirmed it in a tweet on June 27th:

One more show, and then Eve 6 would return to the studio!

July – Eve 6 Hits The Studio, Lets Us In On The Process

After a show at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut on July 1st (which featured an Eve 6 Media HQ meetup of sorts), Eve 6 FINALLY hit the studio. Throughout the month, they let the fans in on the process with their infamous “Eve6Logs”:

Toward the end of the month, we started putting some pieces together and figured out three new Eve 6 songs that would likely make the cut for the new album. Trying to decipher the tracklist for Eve 6′s new album would be an ongoing theme throughout the year, and something we’re still trying to figure out going into 2012!

In news relevant to those who keep track of former members of Eve 6, Matt Bair was signed to a record deal. For those scoring at home, a reunited Eve 6 was now signed to a record label and recording their fourth studio album while their former touring guitarist who helped keep the band alive in the darkest of times was signed to a record deal of his own. All was good in the Eve 6 universe.

August – Eve 6 Drops An “eZine” Studio Update With Some Juicy Info

August was a mostly quiet, as Eve 6 was hard to work recording and mixing their new album. Halfway through the month, however, Eve 6 sent out what they called an “eZine,” which we chronicled at the time. The main details to emerge from this newsletter (and follow up tweets):

The band had recorded 16 songs

The band would tour throughout 2012

Eve 6 rarity “All These Things” definitely would NOT be making the cut

No timeframe for a release of the album was set

September – Eve 6 Gets Some Mainstream News Coverage on Fuse, Finishes Recording, Sets “Early 2012″ Release Date For New Album

September started out with a bang, as a short interview with the band made it onto Fuse TV. Fuse doesn’t have a huge viewership, but it does reach over 67,000 households in the U.S., so it was a pretty impressive bit of PR for the band:

Heading into the fourth quarter of 2011, much was still up in the air regarding Eve 6′s new album. During the month of September, many important details started to emerge whether from the aforementioned interview on Fuse, via Facebook updates on Facebook.com/Eve6Official or via official Eve 6 tweets. Here’s what we learned during September:

According to Max, half of the new album is “best of” The Sugi Tap era, and the other half are new tunes that were created once Jon rejoined the band and rekindled the old Eve 6 spark

Eve 6 finished recording the album toward the end of September 2011

A single and the new album would be released in “early 2012″

The new album is “fly” and will make us “flip our bizness“

October – Eve 6 Gets Some Love From Benji Madden Of Good Charlotte, Gets Bashed In Butch Walker’s Biography, Even More Album Details Emerge

Toward the beginning of October the band started rehearsing again, meaning live shows were imminent. Sure enough, some new dates were revealed, including Boulder, CO and Ybor, FL at the end of the month, and Vegas in December. These would prove to be Eve 6′s final dates of 2011. In the middle of the month, Benji Madden of Good Charlotte tweeted positive thoughts about Eve 6 when he heard they were in the studio with Don Gilmore (who produced multiple Good Charlotte albums). Unfortunately, everyone didn’t have positive things to say about Eve 6. Butch Walker (a favorite of many Eve 6 fans) released his biography and had negative things to say about the band multiple times throughout the book. Below is the most scathing of his commentary about the band:

(click to embiggen)

Friend of Eve 6, Dan Cleary (from the band Grace and Manners) was quick to jump in after we brought this to light:

As we said at the time, it was understandable where Butch was coming from, but it seemed unnecessarily mean-spirited. The fact remains that MANY of Butch Walker’s fans only ever heard of him when his band at the time (The Marvelous 3) opened up for Eve 6 on a major club tour in the late 90′s. To Butch’s credit, he saw our tweets on the subject and quickly apologized, which was accepted by Tony:

If MTV ever brings back Celebrity Deathmatch, we’re all about a late 90′s throwback cage match – The Marvelous 3 vs. Eve 6.

On a less dramatic front, Tony tweeted thanks to a rapper named “Sirah One” who dropped some vocals for the album. This was the second unexpected artist to enter the studio with Eve 6, following word back in July (via Eve6Log #12) that SKA band “The Skeletones” was playing some horns for “Best Friend’s Girlfriend.”

To close out this eventful month, AlternativeAddiction.com caught up with Tony, revealing even more nuggets of information about the upcoming album:

The new album likely wouldn’t be out until the end of Q1 2012, or early Q2 (making Spring 2012 likely)

By late October 2011, the band was in the “mixing stage” of the album process

The sound of the album would be more like “Horrorscope” and less like “It’s All In Your Head.” In Tony’s words: “It’s All In Your Head” was sort of a rawer record.“We stripped away a lot of the additional production that we had put on “Horroscope” to show a different side of the band and to show more of what we sound like live. It was a great record and we loved it but that was a statement of that time for us. Coming back now, we’re going into a different direction again where we’re incorporating a little more of the production elements and keyboards and things. But it’s definitely an EVE6 record. I don’t think any longtime fan of the band will have any doubts about that. It’s got all of the things that people like about the band.”

November – Max Collins Plays An Acoustic Set, Eve 6 Log #13, Chords For “Victoria”

November started out with some interesting news, as Max announced via his sparsely used Twitter account that he’s be partaking in a live, acoustic set at The Viper Room in Los Angeles on November 13, along with Art from Everclear and Scott from Unwritten Law. The show turned out to be a real treat for Eve 6 fans worldwide, as OG Eve 6 fan Tristin (aka liber8edlobster) was in attendance and captured some awesome video. Below you’ll find the world premiere of a brand new song called “Curtain,” likely to be heard on Eve 6′s forthcoming album, and a rousing version of fan favorite “Victoria”

It was later revealed that Max would be playing additional shows like this with the same cast of characters early in 2012, at venues around the country. As of this writing, those dates still hadn’t been publicized.

Also of note in November, another Eve6Log (#13), featuring a peek at the mixing process and a clip of an awesome-sounding studio version of “Victoria.” Speaking of Victoria, Eve 6 Media HQ contributor was curious about the chords for the song and Tony provided some info:

December – Eve 6′s Final Show Of 2011, First Single Announced (Victoria), Getting Closer To a Release Date, Album Masters “Cut & Shipped”

And finally, we come to the end of the whirlwind year of 2011. On December 9, Eve 6 played a show in Las Vegas. We didn’t get much high quality audio or video from the show, but we did get an awesome nugget of information, once again via Eve 6′er Tristin. During a conversation with Max after the show, it was revealed that “Victoria” would be the first single off of Eve 6′s new album. She wasn’t able to get any other information about the album, but this was pretty big news in its own right. Soon after, Tony responded to a tweet by world famous Eve 6′er “Truck,” asking about the release date. For the first time, Tony narrowed it down to specific months, answering March/April of 2012. Progress. On December 14, Euphonic Masters “Cut & Shipped” the Eve 6 album masters, bringing us even closer to a new album. To close out the year, Max and Tony took part in a light-hearted, holiday-themed Q&A for Red Bull USA and we found out that one of Max’s solo acoustic shows would be on 2/23/12, once again at The Viper Room in Los Angeles.

Back in August, Eve 6 Media HQ message board poster “TRcks808″ linked to a 12 year old video that had recently surfaced on YouTube of Eve 6 playing at a huge rock festival called “Rockfest 99.” Of course, the song was Inside Out, and beyond some giggles about Tony’s hair and how awesome it was to see Eve 6 playing in front of such a huge crowd, the thread went dormant. Below is the video in question:

Then, out of nowhere, Tony stopped by the Eve 6 Media HQ message board and exclusively shared his unique perspective of the show from his position behind the drum set. Here is what he had to say:

Stopped by and I saw this. Had to laugh. Loving the hair. I will say that was actually the largest crowd we ever played in front of in our history, upwards of 100k. It was the biggest festival that year (except woodstock 99 perhaps) and pretty much every big band of the day was on the bill. It was sort of the predecessor to the euro style 1 to 2 day festivals all over the country nowadays (Lolla, Bonnaroo, Coachella etc).

After doing a bit of research, it turns out that there were upwards of 130k people at the show (which took place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway), and the lineup included the following bands:

Taxi Drive
Marvelous 3
Silverchair
Better than Ezra
Sugar Ray
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Eve 6
Everlast
Collective Soul
Live
The Offspring

Such a classic lineup of 90′s bands. Pretty sure most of the people reading this blog would pay a lot of money to see that same exact show tomorrow!

Unfortunately, most of us were unable to catch it live. Today, we can all watch it on Fuse.TV

Aside from the giddiness provided by seeing the guys sitting in a recording studio while being interviewed for TV, this clip actually provides some new information. According to Max, half of the album is “best of” The Sugi Tap era, and the other half are new tunes that were created once Jon rejoined the band and rekindled the old Eve 6 spark.

Still no indication of a release date, album title, or track list, but this is definitely a step in the right direction!

Back on July 1, Eve 6 performed at the “Wolf Den” of the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT for one of their last shows before heading into the studio to record their long-anticipated fourth studio album. Before the show, many members of the Eve 6 Media HQ fan community held an impromptu meetup and ended up meeting the band as a group. Below is photo-evidence of the fan meetup, which brings us great pride here at Eve 6 Media HQ:

(from left to right: Tony Fagenson, Chris, Jon Siebels, Judy, Cherrie, Crystal, Max Collins, Mericia and in the front, Johnathan AKA Truck)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the show as I was traveling for Fourth of July weekend. While it would have meant a lot to meet these linchpin members of the Eve 6 fan community, it was probably for the best – I try to stay far away from the blackjack table! Speaking of blackjack, if you’re a fan of online betting, CasinoTop10 is a great site for you. The site culls the interwebs for the best betting sites and presents reviews, bonuses and listings. It really does help you find the best site for your money.

Shameless promotion aside, this Eve 6 fan meetup really means a lot. Some of the people in this photo have become friends as a result of the Eve 6 Media HQ message boards – a community that existed before Facebook or Myspace. During the post-breakup years, we all stuck together as fans of Eve 6 and formed this wonderful community. Now, the band is back together and many of us are able to travel to shows and meet the people who were previously just usernames on a computer screen. Thanks again to everyone who has visited Eve 6 Media HQ over the years and I hope to meet you all at a show soon!

The boys of Eve 6 dropped a nice little treat into our inboxes earlier this week in the form of a studio update (or as they called it, the 8.16.11 edition of the Eve 6 eZine, which sounds painfully 90′s-ish and was hopefully intended to be a tongue-in-cheek nod to their origins). The band has recorded 16 songs and in their words “it’s already difficult to think about cutting anything from the album.” After 8 years without a new Eve 6 album, we say why stop at 16? Why not 20+ tracks and a double-album? Don’t we deserve it for staying faithful all this time? We kid, of course, but that would be pretty awesome.

In other news, the band seems genuinely excited about the sound of their elusive fourth studio album. Unfortunately, a release date still isn’t set, but they do promise a tour throughout 2012. For those of you hoping that the rare “All These Things” would somehow make the cut, you can give up on that dream. Tony had the following to say in response to a tweet from our very own special contributor Jeff Sturman:

If you head over to Eve6.com, you can sign up to receive future issues of the “eZine,” but in case you didn’t receive this one, you’ll find the full text after the jump (including a link to an MP3 download of the amazing acoustic version of “Friend Of Mine” that we posted about a couple of months ago) :

Studio Update + Free Track

Greetings Folks,

We’re deep in the thick of making the fourth Eve 6 record and it’s turning out to be a doozy. No title yet, but the music is really taking shape and the album’s sound is becoming defined. We’ve recorded 16 songs out of a large selection of material, and it’s already difficult to think about cutting anything from the album. We had a lot of songs and ideas going into this one, more than ever before, so you’ll be hearing only the best of the best! We’ve gotten the core instruments recorded and are now doing vocals, rewrites, and additional musical bits and pieces. Each of us are playing to our strengths and bringing our own unique tastes and skills to the mix. We’re excited to have this album finished soon and be on the road touring in support of it throughout 2012.

In the meantime, here’s a free track to keep that Eve 6 sound in your ears until the new stuff comes out. It’s the acoustic version of “Friend of Mine”, as seen in the Youtube video we made HERE. As always, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube for more updates and to see the latest EVElogs and other content, and be sure to go to the band website, Eve6.com.

Thanks for the patience and longtime support. We know it’s taken a while getting this new music to you, but we’re almost at the finish line and we think the results will speak for themselves.

Editor’s Note: The following post was written by special contributor to Eve 6 Media HQ, Jeff Sturman. Jeff is a longtime Eve 6 fan and active member of the Eve 6 Media HQ message board (username: jms999). He is also the rockstar Eve 6 fan who provided the kick-ass Eve 6 live videos from April 2011′s Eve 6 shows in the Carolinas. Jeff is part of a close knit group of Eve6′ers who stuck through the “dark years” of Eve 6 fandom and lived to tell about it. You can find all of his YouTube videos under the username GreatLiveMusic99. What follows is the history of Eve 6 from 2004 – 2011, as seen through the eyes of a creature we’re very familiar with around Eve 6 Media HQ – the hardcore Eve 6 fan.

The Breakup

In mid-2004 rumors began to fly that our world was coming to an end and one of the most underrated bands of a generation was going their separate ways. While no “official” announcement was made, some people “in the know” confirmed that the band was released from their record label and the band would be splitting. On July 15th, 2004, the world did in fact come to an end for Eve 6 fans when the band played their last show on a beautiful summer evening under the arch in St Louis, Missouri. There was no long speech, no sappy goodbyes – just a rocking set and some heart felt gratitude toward the fans and road crew who had supported them through the years. As the closing notes of “How Much Longer” faded, fans started to wonder if that was truly the end of Eve 6.

Max Collins’ short-lived solo project – The Brotherhood Of Lost Dogs

For several months nothing was heard and then suddenly word came that lead singer Max Collins would be playing some solo shows out in Los Angeles. One of the songs that was revealed during those rare Max Collins solo acoustic shows was a complete version of “Mr. Bones” – a song that had previously made an appearance during the bridge of “Inside Out” on the final tour before Eve 6 disbanded (although during the Eve 6 days it was known by fans as “A Bell Rings” and was usually played much faster).

Shortly after these solo shows, Max formed a band called Max Collins & The Brotherhood of Lost Dogs with several other musicians from well known bands that had disbanded or gone on hiatus. Very few shows were played and no album was ever released but some really amazing tunes were written by Max during this period. A friend of Max named Thaddeus Bridwell filmed one of the shows and thanks to him the Eve 6 fan community was able to enjoy the songs. After B.O.L.D went their separate ways Eve 6 fans were left to wonder if these songs would be forgotten or if they would one day reemerge as part of another project. For a time it seemed as though the first option was more likely.

Max and Tony reemerge as “The Sugi Tap”

Then, in mid-2005 Eve 6 fans got some really good news- Max and former Eve 6 drummer Tony Fagenson would be working together on a new, yet to be named project. Nearly a year passed without any info and then all of a sudden, Tony announced a Myspace page for their new project called The Sugi Tap (later switched to “Sugi Tap,” and reverted back to “The Sugi Tap”). Over the next few months, the band released a new song when certain numbers of fans were reached on Myspace. These milestones were reached quickly, and in a short period of time several songs were released including “Pick Up the Pieces,” “Mr Bones,” “Good Associate” and “Little Tiny Everything.” The band actively engaged with fans and would even post songs very late at night only to remove them after a few hours to see if anyone was paying attention. One song called Pastoral Life was actually posted on the newly founded Eve 6 Myspace late one night and was gone almost as soon as it appeared – never to be heard from again. Plans were made to release a digital EP as well as a physical limited edition EP. After several delays the digital EP was released with an extremely positive response from fans. The EP contained six songs including, “Pick Up the Pieces,” “Mr. Bones,” “Good Associate,” “Little Tiny Everything,” “BOLD” (Brotherhood of Lost Dogs), and “Red & Black.” Shorty after the digital EP dropped, a final song was released called “Peace of Mind.” During this time The Sugi Tap played several shows in California as well as one in Las Vegas and another in Arizona. The band received some local press and a few interviews, but things never really “took off” for The Sugi Tap. The band never ended up releasing a physical version of their EP but VERY good news was just around the corner. [Editor's Note: you can check out music from The Sugi Tap by checking out The Sugi Tap page under the "Side Projects" section of Eve 6 Media HQ]

Around this time, Max started dropping hints that he and Tony were trying to answer some very important questions for themselves. Nobody knew it at the time, but discussions were taking place about reforming Eve 6. Both Max & Tony realized that they were working together, the demand for the band was still there, and that the name Eve 6 was much more recognizable than The Sugi Tap. While the songs that they had at this point were some of the best they had ever written, they both knew that launching a brand new band was quite a task. They already had a well established and extremely successful band that they had walked away from a few years prior. A band that sold millions of records, was an MTV staple, played shows around the world to countless fans, (including massive sold-out stadium shows opening for Bon Jovi in 2001). They had had a string of hit songs including chart-toppers “Inside Out” and “Here’s to the Night” songs that have stood the test of time and are still popular to this day. In an era when artists are forgotten overnight and new songs are released daily on the internet, Eve 6 had retained a huge fan base. Finally, in mid-2007, Tony made an incredible announcement that Eve 6 was back!

The only downside in all of this was that Jon Siebels would not be part of the reformed band. Jon was busy playing with a new band called Monsters are Waiting and producing some bands out in LA. The discussion quickly turned to the topic of who would be playing guitar in Eve 6 “2.0.” To hardcore Eve 6 fans, a familiar name surfaced as an interim replacement – Matt Bair. Matt had previously co-written songs with Max, played in a band that had opened for Eve 6 called Bandcamp, was a huge fan of the band growing up in Long Island and had formed a strong friendship with the band.

Eve 6 Reunites Without Jon Siebels

Finally on October 20 2007, Eve 6 played their first show together in over three years to an extremely enthused crowd at The University Of Mary Washington in Virginia. Fans quickly warmed up to Matt and the band sounded great. The biggest surprise of the night was when the band finally answered fans’ pleas to play the popular non-album Eve 6 song called “Anytime” – a track that was featured on the soundtrack for the movie “Out Cold”. It had been played live once and was promptly dropped from setlist rotation. Fans would regularly yell for the song at shows but until that night in Virginia, Max never obliged. During the three hiatus, the song had actually grown in popularity and the band took notice. In an exclusive interview for Eve 6 Media HQ, Max he said the song had really taken on a life of its own and it took the band completely by surprise. In addition to Anytime being reintroduced into the Eve 6 setlist, a new song called “All These Things” made its debut at The University Of Mary Washington. Over the next several years Anytime would go on to become a staple in the band’s live set (much to the delight of fans) while All These Things was locked away in the Eve 6 vault, said to have actually been written for another artist. Although Max and Tony have the key to this vault, it is unknown whether or not Eve 6 fans will ever hear this song again. There is always hope, however as in the past some Eve 6 songs just need a little time to gel and evolve before they eventually return in an evolved form.

Eve 6 Hits The Road During The Matt Bair Years

From early 2008 through 2010, the band played a steady stream of live shows and has launched several mini regional tours throughout the U.S. Shows have been played as far away as Alaska and even in Japan. The fan response was nothing short of incredible and by many accounts the band sounded better than they ever had. During this period a bevy of brand new songs emerged including “What Do You Think of Me Now” (which evolved out of a bassline and some lyrics that Max played during soundchecks in 2008), “Bad News,” “Underachiever” and “Lost & Found.” The last of which was introduced as an online video from the demo studio while the band recorded the song. Also, several songs that were assumed to be defunct were dusted off from The Sugi Tap and Brotherhood of Lost Dogs archives, including “Pick Up the Pieces,” “Little Tiny Everything,” “Red & Black” and “Victoria.”

Label Showcases, Departures From The Band, JON SIEBELS RETURNS TO EVE 6

In late 2010, rumors started to swirl that interim guitarist Matt Bair would be leaving Eve 6 to focus on solo projects, including a forthcoming release with his band “The Sequel.” Long suffering Eve 6 fans couldn’t help but wonder if this would further delay new music by the band, or perhaps even jeopardize the future of the reformed Eve 6. After playing a rare double header show in New York City (later confirmed to be a label showcase) in November 2010, Tony announced in a blog post that Matt was indeed moving on. After playing one final unannounced show at the 2011 NHL All Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina, Matt’s Eve 6 days officially came to an end and Eve 6 was once again without a guitar player. For over three years Matt had helped to reenergize the band and the fan base, bringing a sense of youth, excellent backup vocals and masterful guitar skills. Just as longtime fans became accustomed to his presence in the band, he was gone. Inevitable speculation bubbled up on the Eve 6 Media HQ message boards, with some fans wondering if Jon Siebels was waiting in the wings to complete the reformed Eve 6, but it seemed to be a pipe dream. Jon himself had stated many times that playing with Eve 6 was not in the cards and there was no tangible reason to think otherwise. Then, seemingly out of nowhere an Eve 6 video log (Eve6log) was released by the band announcing the surreal news that Jon was finally rejoining the band. On March 13, 2011 Eve 6 3.0 began.

Eve 6 Signs With Fearless Records

Shortly after announcing Jon’s return, Tony hinted that really big news was coming soon. Several short delays followed (something Eve 6 fans had grown accustomed to), but it was promised that the news would be well worth the wait. It certainly was. On May 3, 2011 the band issued a press release announcing that Eve 6 had signed with Fearless Records and would enter the studio in June with producer Don Gilmore to record the new album. A release date hasn’t been set, but fans have high hopes for an album sometime late in 2011 based on an Eve 6 tweet that said “Happy 2011 to all of the Eve 6 faithful. If 2012 rolls around and we still haven’t put a record out, you all have the permission to knock us on the head with the Whack-A-Mole hammer thing.”

The Future…

Fans have long speculated about what songs will be on the forthcoming new album and because of the long hiatus and side-projects, the band could probably release a solid double-album and still have good songs left over. And this is only considering songs that we know of – the band likely has at least a handful of new songs that haven’t yet been heard. To provide some perspective, Tony stated in a 2003 interview that over 50 songs were written for the album “It’s All in Your Head.”

For Eve 6 fans who stuck through the thick and thin, it has been a long road and now we play the waiting game yet again. In the coming weeks, we’ll break down some of the songs that we’ve heard over the past eight years and take a “best guess” at a track list for the new album. Hopefully you’ll join us for the ride!

Eve 6 used their mailing list to push a new acoustic version of “On The Roof Again” to fans this afternoon. The embedded file info shows the album as “Acoustic Sessions” so we can only hope that this, along with the previous YouTube release of “Friend of Mine”, are a sign that more acoustic interpretations are on the way.

These acoustic songs are a great way to reconnect with Eve 6 fans through classic Eve 6 melodies. At least while the new material is being recorded (and embargoed) until release of a new studio album!

If you’re a band or musician and have dreams of making a living doing what you love in the digital age, you better know how to engage fans and provide exclusive content via social media channels. One way to do this is to regularly chronicle your happenings via “video logs” or a YouTube channel. These short video clips provide a window into the creative process and can even be used to reveal exclusive content. There is no immediate financial benefit, but employing this strategy will almost always pay off in the form of increased fan engagement and possibly even new fans.

Today, Eve 6 provided a best-in-class example of leveraging social media (and using an iPad) to reinvent an old tune by releasing an exclusive acoustic video for “Friend Of Mine,” an under-appreciated ballad off of 2003′s “It’s All In Your Head.” “Friend Of Mine” is the true story of lead singer Max Collins’ struggle to convince a friend to reconsider suicide. Carrying a powerful message that many can relate to, the song seemed like a strong candidate to be a single off of “It’s All In Your Head,” but was passed over by “Think Twice,” “At Least We’re Dreaming” and “Good Lives.” Ultimately, “Friend Of Mine” never saw the light of day (perhaps because fellow rockers and former tour mates Good Charlotte released “Hold On” in 2002, featuring a similar anti-suicide message) and certainly never received the video treatment.

Fast-forward 8 years and Eve 6 has surprised us all, dropping their most impactful “Eve6TV” YouTube submission to date . Via the typical Eve6Log distribution method (upload to YouTube, syndicate via Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and their official website), fans are introduced to a gripping video featuring a somber, yet supportive Max Collins “sitting us down” and singing us the anti-suicide tune. Leveraging the video editing skills of Gemma Corfield, Eve 6 lightens the mood by introducing a whimsical “picture-in-picture” effect showcasing the different layers of musical composition that complete the song. In addition to Jon Siebels singing backup vocals in one frame and strumming an acoustic guitar in another, drummer Tony Fagenson plays some light tamborine in one corner of the video while using an iPad to create a newly introduced piano tune throughout the song. The result is a completely new take on a song that many Eve 6 fans probably know simply as track eight on their third album.

This may not satisfy some fans who have been waiting eight years for a new Eve 6 album, but this type of creativity is vital to success in today’s music industry.
